Found this beautiful Curly Tailed Lizard in the Exuma Cays, Bahamas.
Leiocephalus carinatus, commonly known as the northern curly-tailed lizard, is a species of lizard in the family Leiocephalidae (curly-tailed lizards).
These guys are an invasive species in Florida (where I live), but are native to the Bahamas, so it was cool to see them there.Curly Tailed Lizards were introduced to Florida in the 1940’s to combat sugar cane pests. Curly Tails are now common in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in Florida. We often see them near sidewalks, along walls, and around old buildings, especially where there are cracks and pieces of rubble.
These lizards usually move on the ground but can also climb well! Curly tails are sturdy, robust-looking lizards that sometimes grow to a length of 11 inches. Curly Tails are sit-and-wait predators; they normally eat crickets, grasshoppers, ants and beetles, but I fed this one a grape ?
